New releases & inner musings
Stuff added to the store!
Hey fam,
With the 4th book of The Reemergence (Tesser: A Father Enraged) in the can, and Juniper getting bigger and giving us a little more work time, I’m tying up loose ends on the interwebz.
I started right here, adding the following signed books to my website; The Shed, An Ill Wind, And the Other Side (all from the Tales series), and I also updated the complete Tales boxed set from the 1st 3 titles, to all six.
I also added signed copies of Fyelrath & the Coven’s Curse, as well as AUD 9, The Dealer of Hope!
All purchases are signed by me and sent out, and if you want anything special, shoot me a comment in your payment, or email me/message me direct to make sure I sign it correctly if it’s a gift.
Thanks team.

Would you like your name credited in The Last Resort?
Hey folks,
Back when AUD first transitioned from the website to the print and eBook version, I reached out with an offer for folks to help kickstart it, without using Kickstarter. I set up a Paypal button on the website where you could buy a slot for your name in the dedication for $13.33.
With me taking things back over, and getting not one, but four novels into production simultaneously, plus the added expenses of a 2nd baby, and a big convention coming up in a couple weeks, I’m feeling the pinch, and I’m offering the same chance again. This project will help fund the costs for cover art, layout, editing, marketing, and all that. Releasing novels ain’t cheap, and starting over is pretty pricey.
For folks to get their name credited in the foreword of The Last Resort, click below on the Buy it Now button, and for $10.10 a name, you can get as many names as you like in the book. In the comments of your payment, please spell the names as you’d like to appear. Otherwise, I’ll use the name attached to the paypal payment.
You’ll be able to buy names for the book right up until the final days of production, but for right now, let’s say this ends on August 15th.
Appreciate the support as always, and thank you so much for all the love you’ve given my family and I.

Check out this full-page comic ad I’ve got coming in June!
PRETTY SWEET, RIGHT?
I’ve got this ad (Art done by Peter Simeti, using my book covers and such) going into three June comic books published by Alterna Comics. If you’d like to hunt the issues down at your local comic book store to get them, I’d appreciate it. Also, tell me how pretty this looks in person.
The comics this ad appears in are: Sonitus Issue 3, The XII Issue 3, and Scrimshaw Issue 6.
Check ’em out! Support indies, right?

Just checking in.
Ever feel like you have too much on your plate?
Right now I should feel like that, but I don’t. This year is the year of ‘me’ and I’ve got so much going on it’s crazy. The difference is, I feel very much in control of what’s happening, instead of being controlled by outside influences.
Read into that what you will.
Here’s a summary of what’s coming;
The Other Side AUD Novella (May 31st Print/Kindle, late June audio)
Fyelrath & the Coven’s Curse audio (tbd, but probably June)
The Dealer of Hope (June print/kindle/audio)
The Last Resort (July or maybe August P/K/A)
The Phone (July P/K/Audio TBD)
Tesser: A Dragon Enraged (July P/K/Audio TBD, but likely July or August)
Premium AUD sets shipping (end of Summer)
Reemergence book 5 (Fall 2018)
No God (Fall 2018)
And then more.
Crazy right?
I just hope y’all enjoy it all.
I’ve been getting back at it in force. Researching new marketing strategies, new writing strategies, new ways to manage the business side of being a writer, and I hope it pays off. With two daughters and a wife I feel the pressure to perform, and as long as I keep writing stuff that’s fun to write, and then get it to the world at large steadily, I think we’ll be okay.
Anyway, back to work, I just wanted to post something about the busy year.

The Other Side is now available for pre-order!
Adrian Ring is in a coma.
Shot by a traitor in his midst, he has slipped into an existence where his consciousness is neither alive, nor dead.
He has gone to the Other Side.
Bolstered by the presence of the friends he has lost since ‘that day,’ Adrian embarks on exploring this frozen landscape of dreams, and nightmares.
Gilbert and Gavin bring him to caches of supplies, locations of potential friends and enemies, and perhaps most of all… They bring him to their own pasts. Transported through time and space, Adrian sees a hunting trip first-hand with Gavin, and then relives one of Gilbert’s worst firefights during his Vietnam era.
Then, he sees something that hasn’t happened yet, but will. And what he sees will change the world forever.
Welcome to The Other Side.
The Other Side also contains the third and final part of Meanwhile in Utah by AUD collaborator Josh Green.
Thanks, y’all.

Patreon, and Philadelphia this weekend
Couple quick things before I go get the family packed for the trip this week;
Patreon is where you want to be, if you want early access to stuff. Right now if you’re a patron over there you’ve got access to half of The Phone, the first two entries of the upcoming AUD novella The Other Side, as well as the new novel, The Dealer of Hope.
You’ve got multiple early access images from the comic book I’m developed with Jason DeBit, and if you’re a patron at the Trinity level or above, you get your name on an acknowledgements page in my books.
Writing pay is inconsistent, spread out across the year, and the few hundred bucks Patreon sends our way really helps. I know money is tight, but if you have a few bucks spare, it really adds up for the girls and I.

And, we’re headed to Philadelphia.
Three of the last four years I’ve attending Operation First Response’s Walk for the Wounded 5k. OFR is crazy good people, doing crazy good things for US Veterans. I have a tent just off the 5k with my merchandise, and I donate all my proceeds to them at the end of the day. It’s a huge win/win.
Because it’s a nice summer day, with low key tempo, if you come to say hi, we can probably actually talk. If you ever wanted to hang out, and you want to make the trip to Rose Tree Park in Media this Saturday the 19th, please come say hi. Here are the details; OFR’s 2018 Walk for the Wounded
So yeah. Tons going on, super buys, at least 4 novels releasing this year plus a novella and a comic book.
Oh, and we have two daughters, a house, a dog, and we’re trying to manage a social life too.
Life is real good.
Thanks everyone. Hope to see some of you in Philly this weekend.

Project updates
Lots of moving parts here today.
I posted a neat video over on Facebook the other day talking about it all. Head over here to watch it:
Long story short: The Other Side is right around the corner, AUD 9 is on the way very soon, AUD 10 not too long after, The Phone after that, then the 4th Reemergence novel.
Plus, there’s the RockJockeys comic project I’m working on with artist Jason DeBit. Find Jason on Twitter here: @JDIllustrates And you can find RockJockeys on Twitter here: @RockJockeys
Here’s a sample of the art:
Exciting year for new stuff. Real exciting.

Pre-order for the Premium version of Midnight is here!
So here we are, making custom illustrated versions of AUD, and shipping them out left and right. We’re now up to Midnight, and I’m taking pre-orders.
Because of lukewarm pre-orders for Alone No More, instead of ordering 33 of each book in the series, I’m only doing 13. More limited; more special.
There are a few copies of book 1 and 2 left, and here’s the first chance to order book 3 now. Buttons below.
Premium Dark Recollections: $25 US only, shipping included. THREE REMAINING.
Annnnnd… if you already have a copy of Dark Recollections, but want to continue collecting the set, I’m doing a companion set of 13 book 2’s and beyond. Click below if you’d like a premium version of book two.
Premium Alone No More: $25 US only, shipping included. TEN REMAINING.
Annnnnnd… if you’re wanting the biggest book of the whole set, (and arguably the most important) here’s the link to to pre-order book Midnight.
Premium Midnight; $25 US only, shipping included. TWELVE REMAINING.
I’ve also decided that the premium complete sets will ship in two waves so you don’t have to wait super-long. Once book 4 is printed and illustrated, boxes will ship out, unless you want to wait for all 8 books, which is fine, as that’s a little cheaper on shipping. I’m flexible.
Thanks everyone. This has been such a fun project, and people are really loving it.
Back to taking care of momma and babies and writing.

Premium Alone No More pre-order & Dark Recollections update
If you’re just getting here now, then let me catch you up:
I’m doing premium versions of all eight AUD books with custom illustrated covers done by Alan MacRaffen. The first wave of books was 33 individual copies of book one, followed by 21 complete sets of 1-8. The sets have sold out, but there are still a few copies of book one available. Eight as I write this.
Here’s a look at the freshly illustrated book ones that are about to ship out to people who pre-ordered them:
Boom.
If you would like one of the eight remaining copies of the books shown above (you could get one you see in that picture, but I won’t tell you which…. ) Click the purchase button below. This isn’t a pre-order anymore, there are on-hand and will ship immediately. If you’re outside the United States, message me first, as shipping is insane crazy.
Premium Dark Recollections: $25 US only, shipping included. EIGHT REMAINING.
Annnnnd… if you already have a copy of Dark Recollections, but want to continue collecting the set, I’m doing a companion set of 33 book 2’s. Click below if you’d like a premium version of book two.
Premium Alone No More: $25 US only, shipping included. THIRTY-THREE REMAINING.
As I said in my Facebook video, book one orders will be shipping out sometime this week, but complete sets will ship out when the entire set is on-hand. Should be another couple months for all the artwork and formatting to get done. I’ll advise as I get more info.
Super huge thank you to the people who ordered books on this. I think they’re an awesome little speciality, and they’ve made a huge impact on us being able to take maternity/paternity leave for little Juniper, who arrived on Friday the 16th, healthy and happy. Mom is doing well, and we’re thrilled.
That’s enough work for now. Back to taking care of the kids, and mom.
Any questions, reach out, and I’ll get back to you the best I can.

Baby girl celebration sale!
If you’re reading this when it goes live, I’m in the hospital with my wife Leah, and she’s just given birth to our second daughter, Juniper Astrid.
So thrilled.
But, because the show must go on, even when we add a sweet and wonderful little lady to our family, I’ve set up four sales to run the week of her birth. Check out the sales please, and share the news/links. It’d be a huge help with the time we’re taking off to welcome the new kid home.
Here are some handy-dandy links for you to share or use as you see fit.
Dark Recollections on the Kindle is free until March 20th.
The AUD Omnibus on the Kindle is half off ($3.99) until March 23rd. That’s basically a buck a book for the first four books in the series.
Tesser: A Dragon Among Us on the Kindle is free until March 20th.
The Wrath of the Orphans on Kindle is free until March 20th.
So again, thank you for your patience as Leah and I bring our little one into the world, and our home, and I hope some of you can capitalize on this tremendous giveaway.
See you soon,
-Chris
Patreon releases, and there are still a few premium copies of Dark Recollection left.
Huge release day over on Patreon, right before baby Juniper arrives in the Philbrook household.
I have shared the following:
The next piece of the AUD novella, featuring Adrian Ring and Gavin. (super fun, spooky, and I hope you love it.) Trinity level and higher
Two more chapters of The Phone for the Trinity or higher.
Four concept sketches from Colony Lost for Fire Team members or higher.
And perhaps most cool… I’ve posted a single post for the AV CLUB members over there about something NONE OF YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT.
Secrets, all unraveled over on Patreon.

Premium Dark Recollections Pre-Order
To place a pre-order for an entire set of premium Adrian’s Undead Diary (books 1-8), please click this Buy it Now button:
As always, you’re all amazing people, and I don’t care what your local police say about you.
-Chris
Want a neat collectible? We’re gonna have a neat collectible.
Later this month I’m going to be offering a very exclusive shot at a special edition of Dark Recollections, Adrian’s Undead Diary #1. I think I’m limiting this to just 33 copies, depending on demand.
The interior formatting is updated a little bit (essentially unchanged) but the cover is switching from its previous gloss finish to a special matte finish.
Also, as you can tell from the picture, the cover image (current credit to Ian llanas on that) is removed, leaving a blank space there.
Why?
Because Alan MacRaffen (original cover artist, and layout and formatter) is going to custom draw zombies on each special edition I’m selling.
So you will get the special blank cover version with a unique illustration on it. Unique means it’ll be a one of a kind.
I haven’t set a special price yet, but I’m thinking with the illustration, shipped to you (US only please, because the postal fees are *insane*) they’ll be $25 each.
Would anyone want the whole set of 8 books as a set? I’m considering setting aside a small amount to sell as exclusive sets with themed drawings on them, if this works.) I think I could do the whole set for just $160, and they’re normally $100.
Why am I doing this?
A) Because it’s fun and cool as hell to get a special edition of something.
B) It’s a fun experiment for bringing special editions to upcoming conventions for fans and new readers alike and;
C) With the 2nd baby coming, my writing time will be cut into dramatically, and this is a good way for me to offer a new product to offset my paternity leave (unpaid, as I work for myself) and to help us float through until summer. I’m hoping to use this cash to cover us for babysitting so I can work more.
So if you’re interested, please chime in and I’ll start setting up a checkout on my website for it. If you want more than one, please let me know so I can gauge demand.
These will be first come, first served.
If you have questions, comments or complaints, fire away.
Oh, and I finish editing THE PHONE later today. I hope.
-Chris
To novella, or not to novella?
That is the question.
So I ran this huge sale awhile back where I dropped the price on the anthologies in the Tales of AUD series, while simultaneously GIVING AWAY all three of the novellas in that series.
I’m a generous soul, to give away thousands of dollars of free books like that, eh?
I’m sure you’re wondering why I did that.
I’m also wondering why I did that.
Eureka! It was to gauge public response!
Of all the things I’ve written, the novellas are unpredictable. They sell at a steady pace, but they’re streaky, and I don’t make much money on them. They’re a great way for me to continue to tell stories in the AUD universe, have some new releases as I wait for major deals with publishers, and they’re a terrific outlet for creativity. Novel length releases I’m contractually bound to let my agent try and sell for a period (which is good, as he has gotten me some very helpful deals), but novellas I can just indie release to y’all immediately.
Here’s my dilemma: they cost almost as much to publish as a novel (still needs artwork and formatting, and narration too) and I charge less than half for them. So they’re a dangerous potential money pit if they don’t sell, and I got a kid, a wife, and another kid on the way, so I need to avoid money pits like the black frigging plague.
So here we are, awkwardly staring at each other, wondering where this is going.
Now that several hundred of each novella has gone out to you, what did you think of them? Are they good? Are you willing to buy more if I write more? Are you willing to review them on Amazon or Goodreads?
If I write more, what subjects do you want to see covered? What will you part with your precious $1.99 to read in novella format?
Chime in please, and help me make a good decision about what I should write. To novella, or not to novella? Please be frank in your answers.
-Chris

The #2’s on Tuesday Sale!
It’s here.
Actually not yet, but this coming Tuesday, October 3rd of the grand year 2017, I’m running a Kindle MEGA SALE!
Mega might be an exaggeration, but technically, it’s the most amount of free titles I’ve ever had at once. After running a poll over on Facebook, I just couldn’t decide on what to put on sale, so I took several of the recommendations and made them all on sale.
It’s the second books in my running series. Alone No More, Ambryn & the Cheaters of Death, The Motive for Massacre, and London Burns.
They’re all free starting Tuesday, and will remain free until Friday the 6th. To give you links to all the titles in one spot, here they are below:
